West Papua Women Esther Group Coordinates Prayer and Fasting 21 June – 30 July 2022

It has been announced by Papua Women’s Group called Esther Group, headed by one of Melanesian Women’s leaders in West Papua, who is recently also a Senator from Papua Province of Indonesia at the national level in Jakarta.

The “Sorong-Samarai Prayer and Fasting 2022” is the theme of the event.

There have been seminars and worship held inside West Papua, inviting almost all leaders of Protestant and Catholic denominations in West Papua. All the leaders, presidents, bishops attended and gave talks in the seminars and worship services.

The Prayer and Fasting event will commence on June 21, and will end on 30 July 2022.

The committee for prayer and fasting based in Port Numbay (Jayapura), Vanimo, and Port Moresby.

Hello World! This is 8plus1 Ministry for Indonesia

Hello world! Hello Melanesia! Hello Indonesia!

8plus1 or Eight Plus One or The Nine Ministry is the ministry established by the children of the First Nine Baptized Members of the Evangelical Church of Indonesia in Kelela, western New Guinea.

This ministry is specifically aimed at informing the Evangelism activities carried out by the children and grand-children of the first 9 baptized members of the Evangelical Church of Indonesia (Gereja Injili Di Indonesia) in spreading the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ to many Indonesian non-Christians across what is now known as the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI – Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia).

The Great Commission of Jesus Christ clearly spoken in Matthew 28:18-20

[18] And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Jesus is with us Christians. Jesus promised to be with us! And He promised be with us alway, all the time, unto the end of the world!

When I type this letters in this blog, I my mind tells me something pessimistic and rational that we Melanesians do not have the experience of sending missionaries outside our race and ethnicity other than sending our missionaries from one village and tribe and islands to the others in our own communities. The rational also tells me that we Melanesians do not have that much money to send missionaries to go to Indonesia and spread the Good News.

I submit to God’s word! I surrender my rational and my mind to the greatness of Jesus Christ! I am submitting myself to follow Gods guidance and protection. UNTIL as many Indonesians as possible become members of the body of Jesus Christ.

Kelela, West Papua Highlands, where GIDI Started

Kelela Village, West Papua

Kelela is the Jerusalem for all members of the Evangelical Church of Indonesia (GIDI), where the first baptism of GIDI members happened on 12 February 1962. Here and on this date my mother and my father were baptized among 7 other persons.

My father and my mother were the only family baptized. The other 7 persons were only fathers:

  1. Ki’marek Karoba Tawy (my father)
  2. Lawingga Karoba-Karoba Yikwa (my mother)
  3. Yabingga Ningggirik Yikwa (father)
  4. Yiawon Pena Yikwa (father)
  5. Wuluarek Yikwa (father)
  6. Ugwa Kogoya (father)
  7. Larerep Wanimbo (father)
  8. Emedlugun Uaga (father)
  9. Nu’nuk Kuma Pagawak (father)

Both my father and myself call these Yikwa clan as our uncles. They call us Yikwanak, which means, the sons of the Yikwa mothers.

Agun-Agwe in Koteka Tribes

In Koteka Tribes in West Papua highlands, we have fire side and water side of the clans that we call agun-agwe sort of yin-yang pair. In general it is called Wita-Waya pair, wita being the fire, and waya is the water. Literal meaning of “Yikwa” means “Water Opener”, those who normally speak to the water to come out and to stop.

Based on these we can see there are 4 water side persons, including my father; and there are 5 persons from fire side, including my mother. The water side is called Yikwa, and the rest are clans from the fire side.

The fire element is normally expressed in fire. The fire element is usually expressed in heat. Therefore, across Melanesian tribes, we find two clans in pair, where there is no inter-marriage inside the same blood line.

Kelela means “Kedle and La”

The term “Kedle” means string, or rope; and “La”” means “inside” or “in-between”, or “in the middle of”. Therefore, Kedlela, which then called Kelela means in between the string, or inside the string, or in the place where there are so many ropes are found.

KedleLa is related to another similar name in Agamua, Grand Valley area called, “Kedleima”, which means “Kedle” and “Ima”. “Kedle” means string or rope. And “Ima” means river, water, lake, or stream where there are a lot of strings or ropes found.

Previously it is known for battlefield, where clans from the upper streams or mountains were fighting against those on the valleys, below the area.

This very place has now become the battlefield where God’s victory was declared for the first time that Jesus won the battle, and the proof is that 9 persons were baptized for God.

There is a story in the highlands’ clans and tribes, that at one time there was a string connecting the Earth and Sky (Heavens). This is called “Kedle”.

At one incident, this “Kedle” was cut off by a clan, which I cannot mention the name here due to customary rule. Then that was the point of time, when the connections and relationship between heavens and the earth was disconnected forever. Before that, certain people can go up and learn from the beings on the sky and then come back with news and messages. After the cutting of the string, there is no more messages coming down. Life becomes miserable, wars become part of daily life, death becomes a must.

This very incident of string connecting heavens being cut off happened in “Kedleima”. Now in Kedlela, the string is connected back from the heavens to the Earth.

Sem Karoba

To Evangelise Indonesia, Make Indonesia a Christian Country

This dream of making Indonesia become a Christian Majority Country was spoken by Rev. Emeritus Ki’marek Karoba Tawy a few minutes before he passed away.

Background History of “8plus1”

There were 8 men and 1 woman were first baptised as members of the Evangelical Church of West Irian (EVWI) at Kelela Village, the highlands of West Papua. Right now this church is called the Evangelical Church of Indonesia (GIDI). The only husband and wife baptised at this time was my own mother and my father: Rev Kimarek Karoba Tawy and Mother Lawingga K-Yikwa.

I as the first son of the couple, am dedicated to carry out the order given by my father, with my brothers and sisters across Melanesia.

Rev. Ki’marek Karoba Tawy and Prayer for Evangelising Indonesian Peoples

I am the witness of my father many times being interrogated by Indonesian armed and police officers. They sometimes told him, “You are just gembala (sheperd) of the pigs that you have in your house.” Or “You are just the gembala of wild pigs” Other time, they told him,

“You don’t speak Indonesian language (bahasa), you don’t write and read well, you are illiterate fool, how come you want to bring your sheep to heaven? You might fool them all?”

Sem Karoba, eyewitness

I have seen him, NOT responding either by gesture, facial remark or voice. He stays calm, and smile, while the police and army will come and mock him now and again. When other pastors and elders come, he will NEVER report to them whatever the army or police told him. He will only tell them good things to be done in the church.

I happen to ask him, not only once, “Why do you not tell what this foreign army told you to your elders?” He replied, “I report to God, not to them!”

Prayer as Reports to God

Sure enough I hear him in his prayers, every 12:00 midnight and every 3:00AM in the morning. He will pray about 30 minutes midnight. And in the morning he will pray from 3:00AM to daylight (6:00AM).

Sure enough, I hear him reporting to God, every bit of the event, every words spoken, every feeling that he had when the words were spoken. He will speak just like I will be speaking to him. He will speak in details and in length. He will change his voice, to illustrate what he is saying. He will imitate the voices of those who mocked him, and his voice will sound like them. Then he will come back and speak as himself, reporting to God.

Pray for Repentance of Indonesia People and Evangelism in Indonesia

I sometimes wanted to stop my father from praying for forgiveness and blessing to Indonesian peoples.

After reporting all that happened, my father will as God, “Please forgive them God, I ask you to forgive them, as they know not what they are doing! Do not punish them just because they have done something bad to me! I want them to be saved, not punished!”

  • I pray for Indonesian President Suharto, you bless him, give him wisdom and understanding, because I want him to believe you God.
  • I pray for all ministers and Indonesian government so that they understand that what people here are saying is because what they are doing to people here. Make them understand that what people here are asking is legitimate, God agrees with the position of people here, and therefore, they must agree with you.
  • I pray that all Churches in Indonesia, all church leaders, all pastors and evangelists, all members of churches in Indonesia. You protect them! You save their lives! You are Good Shepperd Lord! Do not let them face problems. Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world! Help those Christians be small lights shinning in the middle of vast and complete darkness.
  • I pray that one day, all Indonesian Moslems and others will become your own children. You have come here in my Island, and saved us here. You send your begotten Son for us here, and for them as well. Please do not leave them live as unbelievers. I pray to you God, forgive their sins for killing us, mocking us, making bad things on us, saying bad things on us, I pray that you forgive them, totally and complete, just like you have forgiven me and made me your own son in Jesus Christ. I was a sinner. I worship idols. I was involved in tribal wars, committed so many sins. But you have forgiven me, fully and completely. I am now a pastor in your church. I want you to make many Indonesians just like what you did to me, and my people here.

Pray for me and my brothers

He then will pray for myself and my brothers. He tells God, my children are educated children. They speak very good Indonesian language. They write books in Indonesian language.

“I want them have a heart to help evangelize Indonesian peoples., so that they will become your children!” I Know they are not pastors or evangelists, but I know that speak Bahasa and they have the anointing You have given me is also flowing into them.

He then will mention everything that we can do and things that he expects us to do, in serving the Lord.

Invitation to All Melanesians, Micronesians, and Polynesians

I invite All MELANESIANS, Micronesians and Polynesians who call ourselves Christian peoples, to join hand-in-hand, and spread the Gospel to our neighbouring country: Indonesia.

Europe, North America, Australa and New Zealand are the countries that have done a lot of evangelism world in the whole world. They evangelized us in Melanesia. The question is “What did we do after we became Christians? Which continents, islands and countries did we go to evangelize after we are called good, peace-loving, Paradise Christian peoples?”

The door is now open. The field is now ripe, because we need more labourers to work the field:

  • We need you prayer support! Pray that All Indonesian peoples become Christians. Pray that all Indonesian churches work to evangelize their fellow Indonesians. Pray that Church Leaders in Indonesia to love Indonesian peoples and preach the Gospel of Salvation in Jesus Christ to this most boasted largest Moslem country in the whole planet Earth! For those churches and Christians across Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia, we invite you all to pray, fast and pray, and fast, and pray.

Hello world! Hello New Guinea! Hello Melanesia!

There is a dream, that came into the dreamworld in June 2014, when considering how to survive from this ever-changing world, that has changed almost everything about myself, and about my world. My identity as a “Melanesian” person is now changed into “a Christian”, “a West Papuan”, “a Papua New Guinean”, “a Solomon Islander”, “a Fijian”, “a ni-Vanuatu”, and “a Kanak”. I am not Melanesian anymore.

I did have my original name, my original identity, my native self-image. But that has changed.

This followed by the change of my own language. Now I speak and write in English, before I was only speaking my vernacular. My children do not speak their own mother-tongue. They speak “Tok Pisin” or the “Language of the Bird”, and other regional languages such as English and Bahasa (from Indonesia).

Finally, I know my self-image will be wiped out, in totality. The identity of my grand-children will NOT be Melanesian, will NOT connected to my home-village in Iruari Village, Bogia, Madang Province.

This is the reality we are facing today.

This is the reason why I decided to promote a dream of “Putting Melanesia Online”, by inviting all Melanesian names:

  1. All villages
  2. All valleys
  3. All mountains
  4. All family names
  5. All clan names
  6. All tribal names
  7. All spiritual names

All of them “Go Online”, registered as domain names.

Since 2014 I have fought for making all Melanesia to “Go Online”, but I am not getting the green light from various government officials, and community leaders across Melanesia.

It is already five years now, since 2014, but I know that this is just a dream, and therefore it needs time to get into this real world.

Orang tua kami telah membawa kami generasi ini ke tingkat sebagaimana kami ada saat ini sehingga untuk selanjutnya generasi penerus sepatutnya meneruskan karya yang telah mereka tinggalkan dengan penyebaran Kabar Baik dan Sukacita bagi segenap Umat Manusia dan perdamaian abadi.
